You Bet Your Life

As promised here is Sports As Life weekly section that was once known as “Cooper’s Corner” first ever college football preview blog. This weekly piece will hopefully appear every Thursday evening and give you the reader a brief look at the coming weekend’s college football games, as chosen by the fine people at the Western Canadian Lottery Corporation and by yours truly. With this piece I hope to spread my betting knowledge to you the reader so that you can make some cold hard cash money. Keep in mind that I am not a bookie, nor am I a professional gambler or run a professional gambling website. You take my advice at your own risk. If you chose to use it, as many of the readers of this site would know, taking my advice is extremely risky at best. Last week I was 8 for 8 on Point Spread and 6 for 6 on Pro Line. Let’s see how I fair this weekend.

Miami (FL) (1-0) @ #5 Oklahoma (1-0). The Hurricanes are coming off what would best be described as a terrible season. With a new coach and a new QB don’t look for them to come back from Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at Owen Field with a victory. (And you thought Mosaic Stadium was bad). With the Sooners also sporting a Freshman QB don’t look for them to cover the –10.5 point spread, but I do see them winning in a close game. Oklahoma 32 – Miami 28

Oregon (1-0) @ Michigan (0-1). Michigan is coming off what can best be described as one of the most embarrassing losses in sports history, at home nonetheless. I look for the Wolverines to bounce back against the Ducks of Oregon in a big way. The combination of Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Mario Manningham (All probable 1st round picks in the coming NFL draft) will be too much for the Oregon defense. The only downside however is that Oregon runs a spread offence, the same spread offence that Appalachian St ran last week. It will be close however I have Michigan winning outright and covering the –7.5 point spread. Michigan 38 Oregon 29

#22 Boise St (1-0) @ Washington (1-0). Boise St should have no problem with the Washington Huskies. Although the Huskies are a much-improved team from last year, the offence of Boise state is too strong for this young defense. Boise St will win outright and cover the spread that is –2.5. Boise St 42 Washington 24

#9 V-Tech (1-0) @ #2 LSU (1-0). Most of the “experts” are saying this is the game of the week. However, after Virginia Tech’s poor showing last week at home in front of a very emotional crowd, against a weak Eastern Carolina team I have a tough time believing that they will march into Death Valley and keep this game close. LSU out-rushed Mississippi St 198 – 10 last week in what was a complete evisceration. The spread is –12.5 points and I see LSU covering the spread with ease. LSU 35 V-Tech 10

Here are the rest of my picks for this weekend:

South Carolina (1-0) @ #11 Georgia (1-0). Georgia will win this game however they will not cover the spread of –5.5. Georgia 14 – So Carolina 10

BYU (1-0) @ #13 UCLA (1-0). UCLA will win and cover the spread of –7.5. UCLA 31 BYU 18

And finally my “Lock of the Week”!

#19 TCU (1-0) @ #7 Texas (1-0). Texas is favored by –9.5 and is at home. However, I really like the upset in this one. Not only does TCU keep it close but they win outright. TCU 28 Texas 27
